CCF Super League History of
I'M SPARTACUS

SEASON 2009-2010     -     I'M SPARTACUS
Players Chris Constable, Adam Crafer, Qaiyum Khan, Arthur Meaton, Tom O'Neill (Capt).
Position Championship - 5th out of 8
Comments The fact that I'm Spartacus finished 5th out of 8 despite all the point deductions shows that they justified their position of pre-season favourites for promotion.  Unfortunately, they were caught a little by the snow which postponed the matches scheduled for Monday 21 December and a team was not forthcoming for the re-arranged date in early January, thus giving us the first 4 board default in recent history.  Over the board, they won 3, drew 3 and lost the 1 by default.  Had they won the game they defaulted, they would have won the league.  Sadly, captain Tom O'Neill had to step down at the end of the season and with various departures, the team effectively folded.
SEASON 2008-2009     -     I'M SPARTACUS
Players Kevin Bailey, John Constable, Qaiyum Khan, Simon Long, Arthur Meaton, Tom O'Neill (Capt).
Position Premiership - 7th out of 8
Comments It was such a cruel finish for I'm Spartacus.  One of their squad never played, another was abroad for 2 months and their top player was often not available.  They went into the final round almost safe but a cruel twist of fate meant that one of their players failed to make the required appearances required by the rules and they lost a point.  Even then they would have been safe had Pawn Crackers not won heavily (thanks mainly to a defaulted board and weak opponents) and Chess Brainiacs had not managed a last gasp draw.  It was not to be and I'm Spartacus are down.
SEASON 2007-2008     -     I'M SPARTACUS
Players John Constable, James Hall, Qaiyum Khan, Simon Long, Arthur Meaton, Tom O'Neill (Capt).
Position Premiership - 6th out of 8
Comments They just managed to survive although were more or less safe with a week to play.  Players being unavailable for long periods and/or too many of them away at the same time, cost them dear in their hopes of a first title.
SEASON 2006-2007     -     I'M SPARTACUS
Players John Constable, Paul Dupre, Qaiyum Khan, Arthur Meaton, Tom O'Neill (Capt), Michael Vandelaar, Michael Williams.
Position 6 out of 12
Comments In their first "competitive" season, I'm Spartacus (the team's new name), they managed 6th place and retained their top flight status for the new season.
SEASON 2006-2007     -     Under 100: I'M SPARTACUS
Players Carolyn Barker, Harry Gold, Dave Morgan, Tom O'Neill (Capt), Joseph Wilson
Position 2 out of 8
Comments Tom O'Neill agreed to take on the team and changed the name to I'm Spartacus.  Despite only having 2 players for the first round, the team managed to draw and fought hard for a 2nd place finish which their earned by virtue of their progressive score.
SEASON 2005-2006     -     NEWFOUNDTEAM
Players Elliott Burton, Richard Ledingham, Tom O'Neill, Michael Vandelaar, Peter D Williams.  Manager - CCF Office.
Position 14 out of 14
Comments Despite an early win, the lack of strength on the higher boards was always going to tell and the team again finished bottom.  But at the end of this season, Tom O'Neill offered to take on the captaincy, which so far had been overseen by the CCF office.
SEASON 2005-2006     -     Under 100: NEWFOUNDTEAM
Players Carolyn Barker, Vikas Chadha, Mike Matthews, Tom O’Neill, Joe Xuereb.  Manager - CCF Office.
Position 6 out of 10
Comments Newfoundteam managed a mid-table finish thanks to wins in the middle and final rounds.  There were one or two selection problems in this team put together to ensure everyone had games and we had an equal number of teams.
SEASON 2004-2005     -     NEWFOUNDTEAM
Players Elliott Burton, Richard Ledingham, Marie Harman, Tom O'Neill, Peter D Williams.  Manager - CCF Office.   Manager - CCF Office.
Position 20 out of 20
Comments With the strong players gone, the team were never really going to make waves and inevitably finished at the bottom of the table.
SEASON 2003-2004     -     NEWFOUNDTEAM
Players Stephen Crowdy, Elliott Burton, Shaun Hilley, Richard Ledingham, Robert Lobo, Dan Rosen, Bill Upton, Alex Wells.  Manager - CCF Office.
Position 16 out of 20
Comments This team was set up by CCF to give people matches, so was never likely to threaten the top end of the league.  One or two strong players came in from outside came in when required to help the team stay competitive and they managed to finish 16th in their 1st season.
