GET ME A RATING EVENT
FRI 27 to SUN 29 APRIL + SAT 5 to
MON 7 MAY
The aim of this competition was to enable unrated players to try and gain a rating in one competition. In an all-play-all, all games count as rated provided that there are no defaults and at least one third of the players have a rating. Players need to play 9 rated games to gain a full rating and score a minimum of 1 point. In this tournament, provided everyone plays all games without default and scores a minimum of 1 point, everyone will have played 11 rated games, which will be enough.
In an all-play-all, anyone scoring less than 1 has all their results discounted. That would leave just 10 rated games. However, if one player having their results dis-counted leaves another player having scored less than 1 out of 10, then that player's results are discounted. The process goes on until everyone left has scored at least 1 point against the remaining players under consideration. This is why CCF has gone for a 12 player all-play-all to hopefully strengthen the odds on everyone coming away with a rating.
Rated players will be paid 50 (at the end of the event assuming they do not default any of their games). Un-rated players will pay 50 if they were playing in the CCF Club Championship during Season 2006-7 or 70 if not (unless they are guaranteeing entry into the 2007-8 season's competition). The tournament's winning player will receive a free entry to a future Challengers' event (as long as the place in taken within the 12 months following this event). This is a 10 player all-play-all where the winner receives free entry into a future IM norm international. It is all part of the plan to enable players to go from bottom to top within the CCF structures.
All players must be members of their national federations. This is a standard rule in respect of FIDE Rated players, which by definition players who play in this event will be seeking to be.

Time control & Start Times:
1 hour 30 minutes all moves plus 30 seconds Fischer timings added per move
from the start. It is hoped that the 2nd round of the day will start for each player as
soon as is reasonably possible after their first game, but the start time quoted
will be the default time subject to games have been finished from the morning
session and up to half an hour's break being allowed for the players involved in a
late "morning" game finish. Players should be flexible in
respect of their afternoon round start time; everyone will be guaranteed the
right to up to half an hour's break between matches.
