CCF Super League History of
CASTLES KNIGHTS

SEASON 2017-2018     -     CASTLES KNIGHTS
Players Nivjesh Aravinthan, Koushikk Ayyappan, Padmesh Ayyappan, Martin Bibby (Cap), Neill Cooper, Max Ma, Alexander Nielsen, Noah Phillips, Chia-Da Yap, Daniel Young.
Position 1st Team: Premiership - 8 of 8     2nd Team: League 1 - 2 out of 6
Comments The 1st team fell away from the rest of the pack with 6 straight defeats, only avoiding the clean sweep with defeat in the final game of the season.  The 2nd team had a good season, but not quite good enough to win League 1; 2 defeats to eventual champions Chesslea 2 left them with no chance going into the final round, even though they finished 2nd.  And after 11 years in the main Super Legaue, that is the end (as thing stand) for Castles Knights, with the longstanding club Castles closing down after many years of hard work by stalwart, Dr Neill Cooper - and team captain Martin Bibby.
SEASON 2016-2017     -     CASTLES KNIGHTS
Players Koushikk Ayyappan, Martin Bibby (Cap), Neill Cooper, Shavindra Jayasekera, Alexander Nielsen, Dylan Perera, James Porter, Daniel Read, Aranan Sivakumar, Daniel Young.
Position 1st Team: Premiership - 6 of 8     2nd Team: League 1 - 3 out of 6
Comments Having survived by the skin of their teeth last season, their 1st team had quite a decent season, although having only lost 1 of their first 4 games, they lost the last 3 to slip down to 1 place of the relegation zone.  Their 2nd team would have reached 2nd place had it not been for too many penalty points as a result of defaulted boards.
SEASON 2015-2016     -     CASTLES KNIGHTS
Players John Bibby, Martin Bibby (Cap), Neill Cooper, Jake Eaw, Ryan Eaw, Rehan Gamage, Shavindra Jayasekera, Alexander Nielsen, Dylan Perera, Aranan Sivakumar, Daniel Young.
Position 1st Team: Premiership - 7th of 8     2nd Team: League 1 - 4th out of 8
Comments Having survived in the top flight season season due to the expansion of the size of the divisions, they were hampered by the loss of one of their top players before the season started.  Nonetheless they seemed pleased not to finish bottom, having won their final game of the season to possibly avoid the drop again this season.  The 2nd team were competitive in League 1 finishing with a 50% record thanks to a couple of late season wins.
SEASON 2014-2015     -     CASTLES KNIGHTS
Players Neill Cooper, Hajane Anbukumar, Daniel Young, Pavan Murali, Philip Knott, Martin Bibby (Capt), Ryan Eaw, Jon-Man Chung, Jake Eaw, Shavindra Jayasekera, John Bibby.
Position 1st Team: Premiership - 6th out of 6     Cup - Cup Intermediate Round       2nd Team: League Two - 2nd out of 6     Cup - Plate Semi-Finals
Comments The 1st team continued with their yo-yo experience by finishing bottom of the top division having won the Championship last year, however  re-structuring might yet save them from the drop.  The 2nd team won their first 4 league matches, but had to concede 2 defaulted boards in what turned out to be the head-to-head decider in the final round against Pawn Crackers 1.  The cups brought little light relief.
SEASON 2013-2014     -     CASTLES KNIGHTS
Players Neill Cooper, Pavan Murali, Daniel Young, Philip Knott, Martin Bibby (Capt), Hajane Anbukumar, Theo Bibby.
Position 1st Team: Championship - 1st out of 6     Cup - Cup Quarter-Finals       2nd Team: League One - 5th out of 8     Cup - Plate Semi-Finals
Comments The 1st team did exactly what they needed to do and bounced back to the top flight at the first attempt with a simple 5 wins from 5 games.  The cup run ended for them in the quarter-finals against one of the Premiership strugglers, whereas the 2nd team reached the semi-finals of the plate.  Their league season started and ended well with victories, but 3 defeats in the middle left them just below the midway point of the table.
SEASON 2012-2013     -     CASTLES KNIGHTS
Players Neill Cooper, Philip Knott, Pavan Murali, Martin Bibby (Capt), Hajane Anbukumar, Theo Bibby.
Position Premiership - 6th out of 6
Comments They never quite reached the heights they had hoped.  Despite being on 50% after the first 2 rounds, their league results saw them lose the last 3 to drop into bottom place and down on the very last day of the league season.  In the cup, they won their opening round but went out on board count in the quarter-final.
SEASON 2011-2012     -     CASTLES KNIGHTS
Players Hajane Anbukumar, Martin Bibby (Capt), Theo Bibby, Pavan Murali, Daniel Young
Position Championship - 1st out of 10
Comments For many years a team to provide juniors with matches, a strong team grew and wiped out the division with 7 straight wins to jump into the top flight for the first time in their history.
SEASON 2010-2011     -     CASTLES KNIGHTS
Players Hajane Anbukumar, Martin Bibby (Capt), Theo Bibby, Joshua Caulcott-Cooper, Freddy Gibson, Pavan Murali, Thomas Ward
Position Championship - 5th out of 8
Comments They were right in the promotion race until the late stages of the season.  However, two defeats in the final 3 rounds, plus a player agreeing to play and then not turning up cost them 3 match points.  But in terms of "over-the-board" play, the captain was extremely happy with their achievements.
SEASON 2009-2010     -     CASTLES KNIGHTS
Players Abimanya Baranathan, Rajanayagam Baranathanm Martin Bibby (Capt), Theo Bibby, Joshua Caulcott-Cooper, Freddy Gibson, Thomas Ward.
Position Championship - 6th out of 8
Comments Despite not winning any matches, they managed to finish outside the bottom 2 thanks to others having points deducted.  However, the team was being run more for pleasure and practice so the results were not as important as for other teams.
SEASON 2008-2009     -     CASTLES KNIGHTS
Players Martin Bibby (Capt), Theo Bibby, Joseph Carey, Emily Galvin, Freddy Gibson, Philip Knott, Thomas Ward.
Position Championship - 7th out of 8
Comments This season, they opted for a wide rotation of players with their entire squad being "not appearance protected" and this played a big part in them not challenging at the top of the table.  They managed a couple of draws but were never beaten by a large margin which must bode well for next season.
SEASON 2007-2008     -     CASTLES KNIGHTS
Players Theo Bibby, Emily Galvin, Nathan Heal, Philip Knott, Katherine Shephard, Jason Ying.  (Manager - Graham Knott)
Position Championship - 4th out of 8
Comments They were in the running for promotion all season with a squad full of dangerous young players.  They even went into the last game sitting in the promotion zone but couldn't find the result on the final day in what was an extremely close and exciting division.
SEASON 2006-2007     -     Under 100: CASTLES KNIGHTS
Players Emily Galvin Nathan Heal, Philip Knott, Tom Lydford, Theo Bibby, Jason Ying.  (Manager - Graham Knott)
Position 6 out of 8
Comments Despite their low position, Castles Knights only lost 1 of their 5 matches, drawing 3.  The did lose a point on a technicality  which cost them 5th place.
SEASON 2005-2006     -     Under 100: CASTLES SAINTS
Players Joseph Brownless, Tom Lydford, Edward Owen, Jason Ying.  (Manager - Neill Cooper)
Position 8 out of 10
Comments They ended as the middle of the 3 Castles teams and didn't disgrace themselves.  They managed a win and a draw in their 5 matches, the draw coming against Castles Seniors.
SEASON 2005-2006     -     Under 100: CASTLES SENIOR
Players Joshua Caulcott-Cooper (Capt), Freddy Gibson, Graham Knott, Sebastian Lumb, George West.
Position 10 out of 10
Comments Despite being the presumed strongest of the 3 Castles teams, they did in fact finish bottom. They only managed 2 draws in the last 2 rounds including one against Castles Saints.
SEASON 2005-2006     -     Under 100: CASTLES WHYTE
Players Ruth Cooper, Nathan Heal, Daniel Hubbard, Phillip Knott, Charlotte West.  (Manager - Neill Cooper)
Position 5 out of 10
Comments 2 wins in the first 3 rounds had them well placed but 2 defeats in the final 2 rounds left them sitting mid-table, but they finished highest of the 3 Castles teams.
SEASON 2004-2005     -     Under 100: CASTLES
Players Joshua Caulcott-Cooper, Luke D'Souza-Benham, Sebastian Lumb, James Sullivan, George West, Ehsan Yoseflavi.
Position 6 out of 10
Comments Castles more than held their own in this new Under 100 competition, much more suited to the players involved.  They won 1 and drew 3 of their 5 matches.
SEASON 2003-2004     -     CASTLES
Players Neill Cooper, Jonathan Lui, Richard O'Neill, Ishan Ramdewar, Theo Woodland-Hill, Ehsan Yoseflavi.
Position 19 out of 20
Comments For comments on this season, you could just as well read the entry for the last season.  Again, the team were never likely to threaten the top and sadly withdrew from the competition after this season.
SEASON 2002-2003     -     CASTLES GOLD
Players Neill Cooper (Capt), James Foster, Jonathan Lui, Becky O'Neill, Richard O'Neill, Michael Prizant, James Rudland.
Position 12 out of 12
Comments Castles are a junior club based in Whyteleafe who saw our competition as a perfect chance to test some of their junior players in adult ranks.  The team were always likely to struggle and were never likely to win but although finishing bottom, the season was a good test for several young players.
